So what? Why does learning about language anxiety matter? For some students language anxiety hinders them from learning, speaking, and participating in class. They form negative images of themselves that lead to psychological and physiological problems that ravish all other aspects of their lives. It is for this reason that we need to know how and why language anxiety forms. Why is it that a reaction, good or bad, from a native speaker to someone learning the language causes them to feel such a way? If language teachers become aware of how language anxiety affects individual students, language anxiety could be diminished for those that it does not affect positively. Conversely, there are students who are stimulated by language anxiety. Educators could use this positive anxiety to enhance the students learning and push them forward. The education system would benefit from this, but more importantly the students themselves would benefit.
